AARP eligibility starts at 50, so that's anyone who was at least 15 in 1977 ... almost nobody who saw the band in their peak years ISN'T AARP eligible. Well, as they say, beats the alternative.

Interesting article:

Kinda depends upon what you think the "peak years" were doesn't it ?
I'm 65, pretty sure our definitions aren't the same. '77 was the end of the peak as far as I'm concerned. Not saying that I didn't enjoy the rest of the ride as well.

Yeah, I was using '77 as "end of the peak" ... there's a lot of great stuff after that, but my point was that if someone wasn't 15 or older by '77, and hence 50 or older now (and AARPable, gulp), they're pretty unlikely to have seen any live "peak Dead." Except for a few babes in arms and exceedingly sophisticated tweens with parents way more lenient than mine, 50 is pretty much the "minimum Peak Dead-ing Age."

Actually I was 17 in '77 but had never heard of the Dead. I did see them in '78, and I feel really lucky, show-wise, but can't claim Peak Dead-edness. Just AARPability. But no conventions, thank you very much. That just sounds scary, drum circles or not.

Just noticed how wrong I read your original post .... I should know by now that mass quantities of coffee are essential to cognitive thought. My bad.

Well I saw them in 1977, but didn't make the 15 year old mark. I was 13. Close, but well, tonight I think I'll have a cigar.
